Cleaning & Periodontal Care

Regular cleanings and exams are the simplest way to keep your teeth for life. We remove the plaque and tartar that brushing cannot reach, check for cavities and other changes, and give you honest advice on what to do at home.

Healthy gums are just as important as healthy teeth. Gum disease is common, often painless in its early stages, and a leading cause of tooth loss. If we find signs of it, we can treat it with deeper cleaning and a follow-up plan to get it under control and keep it there.

Is this right for you?

  • You want to stay on top of your oral health with regular checkups.
  • Your gums bleed, look swollen, or feel tender.
  • You have been told you have gum disease or that you have bone loss around your teeth.

What to expect

  1. 1. Exam

We check your teeth and gums, measure the spaces around each tooth, and take images when needed.

  2. 2. Cleaning

We remove plaque and tartar above and below the gumline, then polish your teeth.

  3. 3. Periodontal treatment, if needed

For gum disease, we carry out a deeper cleaning of the root surfaces, and may do it in more than one visit.

  4. 4. Maintenance plan

We set up a schedule of visits that fits your needs and show you how to care for your gums at home.

Common questions

How often should I have a cleaning?
Many people do well with a visit every six months. If you have gum disease, we may suggest more frequent visits.
Can gum disease be reversed?
Early gum disease, called gingivitis, usually can be. More advanced disease can generally be controlled with treatment and steady care.
Will it hurt?
Most cleanings are comfortable. If your gums are tender, tell us and we will adjust and can numb the area for deeper treatments.
